You're trusting us with your teen's first step behind the wheel. Here's exactly what that means.

We're licensed by the California DMV under License E0001 and fully satisfy the 30-hour driver education requirement — no surprises when it's time to apply for a permit.

Real people, not a call center

Questions go straight to us, a real California driving school — The Hills Driving School LLC — not an outsourced support queue.

Your teen learns at their pace

No deadlines, no pressure to rush. Your teen can pick up exactly where they left off, on any device, whenever it fits your family's schedule.

Nothing hidden in the price

$88 covers the full course, every quiz, the final test, and mailing the official certificate. No add-ons, no surprise renewal charges.

The certificate ships fast

As soon as your teen passes the final test, we mail the official DMV completion certificate quickly so you're not stuck waiting to book a DMV appointment.

You can always reach us

Email us any time with a question — about the course, billing, or anything else. A real person responds, not a bot.

DriveEdCA is our statewide, self-paced course for California families anywhere in the state. If you're in the LA/Santa Monica area and want a real local instructor on the phone — plus certificate delivery straight to your door — our sister site CaliforniaTeenDriverEd.com offers that local, full-service experience, also backed by The Hills Driving School.

Once your teen passes the final test, contact us to start behind-the-wheel driving lessons with a real instructor — (310) 490-0755 or (818) 419-5958.

Common questions

What parents and teens ask us

Straight answers, in plain English — no DMV jargon.

Is DriveEdCA licensed by the California DMV?

Yes. DriveEdCA is part of The Hills Driving School LLC's driver training program, licensed by the California DMV under License E0001, and fully satisfies the state's 30-hour driver education requirement.

How much does it cost, and what's included?

The full course is $88 — every chapter, every practice quiz, the final test, and mailing your official DMV completion certificate. No add-ons or surprise charges.

How long does the course take to finish?

California requires at least 30 hours of instruction. Most students finish within 2 to 4 weeks, working at their own pace — there's no deadline.

Is this course for teens, adults, or both?

Both. Teens (15½ and older) working toward their learner's permit and adults who need state-required driver's education can both use DriveEdCA.

Do I need a permit before I start the course?

No — driver's education comes first. Completing this course and passing the final test is one of the requirements you'll need before applying for your learner's permit at the DMV.

What exactly is the certificate, and what do I do with it?

It's your official Certificate of Completion, proving you finished California-licensed driver's education. Once you pass the final test, we mail it to you — you'll bring it with you when you apply for your permit at the DMV.

What happens after I get my certificate?

You'll bring your certificate to the DMV along with the rest of your permit application. From there, the DMV handles the written test and issuing your learner's permit.

Can I take this course from outside California, or if I'm not a California resident yet?

DriveEdCA's course satisfies California's driver education requirement, so it's built for students who are getting (or will get) a California license. If you're unsure whether it fits your situation, reach out before enrolling and we'll help you figure it out.

What if I don't pass the final test on my first try?

That's completely normal — you can review any section again before retaking the test. Take your time; there's no extra charge to try again.

Can I really do this on my phone?

Yes. DriveEdCA works on any phone, tablet, or computer, so you can work through lessons wherever's convenient — during a commute, between classes, whatever fits.

Is my payment and personal information secure?

Yes. Payments are processed securely through Stripe — we never see or store your card details — and your account is protected the same way major apps protect their sign-ins.
